    LW Preset Standarization Scene

    Hello Ninjas!
A great many of you may have noticed a massive thread in the general section wherein many, many, SQ ninja's have been involved in creating a standarized, calibrated surface preset scene. After alot of work we have what we consider to be a pretty dang decent setup for rendering and sharing presets.

The above image utilizes presets which are found in the LW default presets (well except for the Eon Steps on) and shows some of the strengths and abilities of the new scene.

To make life better Jeremy Hardin (the LScripting God) has written a real fast and easy to use plugin which handles rendering the preset and preping it for sharing.

The instructions for using this plugin scene and the location of the plugin for downloading can be found here: (Thanks to Lede for hosting this plugin scene and building a home of a new preset repository)
LW Preset Plugin Instructions & Download

So the purpose of this thread is not just show off presets but to show off and share any/all presets you may have. We all create and save them so why not start sharing them. These presets can be normal non-nodal as well as nodal presets. (Note: I'll be starting another new thread centered on converting alot of our much loved presets to node base presets).

I'm at work right now setting up a couple libraries of presets to share. So stay tuned to see more from me and until then grab the plugin and start building you own to share!

Well if I get some of my SSS tests out of the way I'll post that texture for people to play with Good to see this is getting some attention again.

congrats on this great plugin. I will be using it and sharing some presets soon.

if only presetcentral with their new preset application could tie in with this project...

If it helps, my own forum supports the .node extention. Maybe we can talk kurv into adding the extention here to help centralize the presets.

Exciting! I like the preset design - I'll take a look at the plugin and look to see if I have any interesting textures to export and post.

We are in discussion with the PSPlant makers on this already. There's definitely mutual interest there.

Of note, the plugin generates a content directory for these presets that includes the ball-thing render and everything needed to get that (as well as a log of render options and rendertimes). So .zip may be a more appropriate attachment if the goal is supporting this particular project.

Heres the first set of presets. These are LW9.0 nodal based Metalflake Lacquer surfaces. If you dl'ed them in the past re-dl these. I have modified them so they render MUCH faster!

    Re: LW Preset Standarization Scene

I downloaded the plugin and made it run with a surface, rendering now.
But, how do I make some testing inside LW?
I would like to tweak the presets for this scene in particular.
I use many crazy lighting setups, so adapting the surface for this setup may help?

It would also be great to specify other than air surface. I use this for many strange effects as the diamond surface (aberrations and such).

To tweak inside LW, just use the generated content. In other words, after running, set your content directory to
    **Your LW Install Dir** >> Presets >> Preset_Standard >> **presetname**_preset
then load the only scene in the directory and tweak away.

As to the air surface, it's just an option to add refraction correction polygons so that if your preset surface is refractive, the rays are corrected to refraction of 1 upon leaving your preset surface. It's not mean to actually add air. Are you saying that you'd like to change this refraction correction surface?

    Re: LW Preset Standarization Scene

For surfaces as diamonds, crystal, or any other transparent object, I normally use the air polygons to filter color. I use a "flipped" version of the geometry, and apply to this one the "air" or other "filtering" surface.

It would be cool to add a field stating the name of the surface. I got some preset.srf that have really wacky names and would be cool to rename them when I run the plugin!

Another thing that i noticed, is that the plugin tells us if it the surface has luminosity. To be sincere, I don't tend to remember this, so it would be good to activate it automatically if it does. Or some other way so that I don't have to test it myself to know if I used luminosity

Really nice development guys, I'll start exporting all my presets! YAY!
