Question Audio Progressively Out of Sync Problem

    Hi all!

A client of ours had a DVD of a project we worked on made, quite professionally done, we want to recompress it for the web.

I extracted the 18min movie as a VOB file using Xilisoft DVD Ripper Platinum 4 (does a good job too) renamed it to .mpg so I could bring it into Vegas, which works fine.

If I play it back in the timeline within Vegas everything is fine. I've recompressed it as a .MOV (Sorenson3 codec) half size of the original with lower audio (mono, 22Khz) the left FPS as the original (29.97).

When I play it back in Quicktime the audio slips out of sync about a third of the way, gets progressively worse.

Any idea what might be causing this? It is because it's a muxed mpg? Is it because I'm re-encoding the audio at a lower rate?

Could really do with some help here, it's not urgent, it was just a nice to have really, but now it's bugging me!

    Cheers
    Matt

    Busy in here isn't it!

I've come to the conclusion that Vegas is a big pile of poo. I've tried a number of formats, even DV uncompressed and ALL display the same problem. Audio goes out of sync after rendered.

Re: Audio Progressively Out of Sync Problem

    Matt,

I also use Sony Vegas and LOVE it Now, I have had this problem you are describing before.

I was extremely pissed when it began occuring. The problem was the plug in that I added that was to tweak some of the sound files. It was sound cleaner thing that eliminated some of the background noise. Turns out it has a damaging effect when you render your video.

Remove or turn off that plug in and it should fix it. Basically, if you are using an external program for sound editing and installed the plugin to vegas it doesnt like it.

I hope that is your problem and you can get on to make great movies.

I'd really like to hear if you resolve this. Drop an email if you do...I am new to this forum so not sure when I will check back.

    Eric

Re: Audio Progressively Out of Sync Problem

Unfortunately there are no audio plugins whatsoever that could be the cause, video or audio.

I would suggest it was the little shareware program creating bad files, but they import and play fine on the timeline in Vegas, so i can only think it MUST be Vegas setting that throws it out. I just can't think what!

Re: Audio Progressively Out of Sync Problem

I have been reading about this & it seems a lot of sync problems are caused because the original file has a video delay built in.
This has to be set when recompressing.
    I have NOT used this ,but this tool;
    http://www.headbands.com/gspot/
reports audio & video settings for a video file.

Re: Audio Progressively Out of Sync Problem

I have always thought about getting Vegas because I heard it's audio features are excellent.

Can't help with your problem - but I searched a couple Vegas forums and didn't see hardly any posts about audio sync problems.

    Here a couple:

    T2
    T3
    T4

    just trying to be helpful....

Re: Audio Progressively Out of Sync Problem

    matt,
I sense your frustration but there is in fact a plugin that caused mine and I was not shareware. was just passing on my fix for a similar situationm vegas played fine in timeline but audio would get out of synch on render. I installed plugin, got problem. removed plugin, problem fixed. Fact.
I read multiple forums and contacted sony....to no avail.
In order for it to be a setting I would have to change it and I don't think anyone would intentionallly want delayed audio. if so..slip audio manually.
    Hope you resolve.

Re: Audio Progressively Out of Sync Problem

Sorry, what I meant to say on my last post, was I hadn't added any plugins that might be causing issues, wasn't trying to suggest you were wrong or anything!

I think Vegas just doesn't like muxed VOBs, but what I don't understand is why it plays fine within Vegas.

Are you sure the audio issues are not native in the original files..?

Have you tried rendering on a different machine..?

The file plays fine outside of Vegas, and within Vegas timeline, just not when rendered. Also tried it on my work machine, same issues there.

Re: Audio Progressively Out of Sync Problem

I think I've sorted this problem out.

When I was encoding it before the video was placed right at the start of the timeline in Vegas.

I just tried it with a slight offset at the beginning and it seems to have worked! Not sure why this would help, but it does!

    FINALLY!
