to be honest i preffer the original , also it would be better for print in the long run , but ill wait and see the final product before i can give advice , keep it up
I have the same opinion about the old logo. Logos work best when they are reduced to the basic tools of design. And for my taste, 3D Logos are way too much, when you know what i mean.
Thanks for the replies. While I agree a 3D logo is often a little too much, especially for print, I also felt the 2D logo was too little. My plan is to make a nice 3D logo I can use for title sequences but to make a stenciled design version for print and design use.
Anywho, an update.

So the first render of the logo. Now the hard part is distilling it down to a simple graphic for print/design use. I'm thinking of leaving the letters off entirely but I'm not set on that yet.

Refining the modeling a bit.
Also retextured with slope and incidence angle to achieve a more bronze look.
Next I'm going to start the 2D design.

I'm surprised nobody asked, what are you modeling that with? It doesn't look like it's polygons or subpatches like you'd get in LightWave, more like it was sculpted in 3D Coat.

Sculpt first, polygons later
Yep is Lightwave.
Probably just seems like another program because I didn't show much of the wires first and this would be a good area for a Mudbox or ZBrush.
The modeling is a bit temporary though, I'd really like to do more to the hair and add some more "skull" lines but I'm balancing a bunch of projects so I don't have too much time to refine each one.

Very nice. Even though I agree with the points made about your previous logo. The new logo might work for 2d print if you tried cel shading.(guessing)

you webpage is not working here :-(
nice and clean wire by the way
I'm thinking of drawing over the logo in Illustrator actually, I'm worried cel shading would look too much like a filter.
Oh heh, about the website. I spent all of last night recoding it. It has a theme at the moment but I need to re-add the content. Glad ya noticed though :-).

I like synthetic logos so you should use just the head (no ringlets or circle around the head) to ensure a quick reading by people when you use it in a small size.
But It´s just my opinion. I like the bear as symbol
Vector
Okay slight update. I decided to go with silver instead of bronze.
Now when I make the 2D version I can make it in gray and when used as a watermark (or otherwise) it will fade back and let the colors of an image standout.
I agreed with vectorlw that the circle was unnecessary. Unfortunately removing the circle means the hair stands out more and I would really like to redo the hair.
Next update will be some 2D Designs stay tuned!

Very nicely modelled. The only thing which jumps out at me is the nose, which is stylised, whereas everything else is 'realistic'. I think it'd look better more realistically modelled!
Nice surfacing, both the gold and bronze have a wonderful smudgy tarnished quality, though in either case you might want to use some sort of dirt shader to fill in the crevices with more corosion, if only subtly, and use some actual reflection on your surfaces.
As to the actual logo format. I think the radial letters don't really work. How about just arranging them underneath the Bear? Something simple, and give them a similar tarnished metal surface.
