Never argue with an idiot, they will lower you to their level then beat you with experience.

Also an example of some the same guys tech.
Alot of it runs in near real time. The smoke stuff looks amazing, especially considering there are nearly NO SIMULATION TIMES.

Yeah saw this myself, it is pretty awesome. it would be nice it when they release it, if they could as a standalone like Real flow...
Makes lightwave look like an old toy I hate to say it..
It is released with an autodesk suite, kind of thrown in from what i can gather

What impresses me about it is that its SPH based. On the scientific side SPH was gone the way of the dinosaurs. Looks like another ancient beasty has survived and shocking the world. I have to admit after watching all the Lagoa hype the past few weeks I'm tempted to jump into a little SPH play this fall and see how it compares on the high precision HPC side.

What do SPH and HPC stand for Tim?

Sorry
SPH = Smoothed Particle Hydrodynamics.
HPC = High Performance Computing (basically scientific computing on super computers=clusters).
SPH is almost an oxymoron when it comes to accurate scientific fluids especially when it come to shock dynamics and MHD (Magneto Hydro-Dynamics)

Well I guess that's the difference between accuracy and what looks good, it certainly looks good!for graphics work that's all you need it to do! Though it may fail to live up to expectations if it's put into 'difficult' scenarios? Very cool technology, and I hope this sort of thing can be done win the core connections editor!

Yeah, and that's the problem I have with moving Oto-Taca down to a CG level. It makes very beautiful and accurate fluid events but at a horrific cost! Its not bad alg design and its not due to lack of optimizations, its due to using very accurate and complex calc's and designed for large, complex situations, you know like blowing jets of super heated material from near event horizon regions of a black hole in a XRB/GRB.

yep but of course those kinds of things are what super computers are forFor baysplosions you just need something that looks good

After using some autodesk products recently, it does make me smile to see how quick LW opens up, and how intuitive and natural a lot of the workflow is. Not bashing softimage etc, but boy does some of it feel clunky. (powerful, but clunky)
