The man that came from boxland

A few students stayed late tonight to check out modeling a basic character from a box....I saved the steps along teh way so that the Spinquad ninjas could have a peek. Enjoy!

Cool! Nice character! I'm not comfortable with the box-modelling method myself but this is great. Does this mean you stayed late too perhaps???

Great stuff, Proton!! Thanks for posting that.

How can I get the gif to go slower???

Can you post the stills like Locutus?

I love the amount of personality you can get with so few polys.

I don't have the time to post all the images but can send them to someone that will take the time to post them.

Great process Proton!! u should record these kinda things with camtasia or something, to give people wich don't know box modelling the exact feeling on how this technique is so cool.

Just curious, but how well would a character built like this animate?? The reason why i ask is that most people model in the default, or arms out position.. Is there an advantage to modeling the character like this, or does it really matter what position the arms are in?? Am i confusing?

This guy would animate great.....Arms down or arms out doesnt matter if teh poly flow is correct....it took a simple rotate to get the arms out

    Thanks proton.

I have been under the impression that characters MUST be modeled with the arms outward if you want to get good animation out of em...
