Cool tool...but...this is built into lightwave 8.

    Try "translate plus"...it's interactive.

Translate plus (Modify > Translate: More) functions as a detailed Move, Rotate, and Scale tool. You can use a point's normal, a segment, or a segment's normal to define how to move, rotate, scale a selection. You can even just use global X, Y, or Z. Each of these operations can also be done with a falloff.

Edgeslide is a useful tool...no doubt....I'm sure many people will love it.

Just wasn't sure if people were aware of Translate plus ability to do this operation and then some. Once you spend some time with it it's quite easy and fast to use.

thanks that's great, but I'm sorry to say that StretchPoint already does the same and you can drag the points on screen which is a bit more intuitive. And then there's OnEdge which is even better because it lets you drag points along an edge without pre-selecting anything.

    StretchPoint : http://www.wagglydog.com/lw/
    OnEge : http://www.hurleyworks.com/Cplugins.html

Edit: Oh, and I almost forgot Daz Segment Scale which lets you drag a row of points along their individual edges. But unfortunately the link is dead.

    Re: edgeslide

THANKS ALLLLLLOT GREENT AND ALEXIONE! Something i've needed on me mac. Those other plugs are good im sure but aint mac compatible.

Proton, I tried to use Trans plus but from what i've tried. The selected points wont conform to its edge. I can designate a segment as a guide but all the points move(trans) as one solid piece. Scaling didnt work for me either, unwanted effect. Also, i would have to re-designate a segment to go the other direction if i just wanted to see if the other direction/edge is the way to go.

Please correct me if im wrong.
OT: A Trans Plus Vid would be sweet. I think someone else mentioned you should. Thanks in advance.

This tool ROCKS!!! Thanks so much Greent.

All you naysayers, shame on you None of the offered alternatives (including Translate Plus) does what Edgeslide does. They all move points along a single selected vector. Edgeslide moves all the selected points, each along its own vector determined by the points on either side. It does more, is much easier to use and much more useful than those other tools. Greent has done very well with this one.

I hang my head in shame

Cool to hear details on what makes them different. On my first look they appeared the same....altho both don't fit into my current workflow I can see the power of both.

Great tool! I've been doing this with "Segment Scale" for a long time.

It would be great if the new EdgeSlide tool could be interactive and adjustable in the viewport rather than the small popup box with spinner amount.

The nice about about "Segment Scale" is that you can drag the points (edge sliding) interactively in the viewport, and you have aditional features in the numeric keypad. The bad part is that you need to select the points in the right order, but it works well together with "ring select" in LW...it keeps the right selection order.

great to have both plugins tho

    Re: edgeslide

Segment Scale is definitely good but still can't handle this function(edgesliding) as fast. Segment Scale is good with loops but what about half a loop in a complex mesh? Have to go in and deselect what you dont want.

To go the other direction/edge, you would have to re-select all the points and deselect if you dont want a whole loop.

Edgeslide could be more interactive with viewports like Segment Scale tho, that would be sweet!

Not trying to argue but just feel that this new plugin filled in a hole i felt modeler had.

I still have both tools hotkeyed, both have their purposes. I keyed edgeslide to "r". I never use "rotate 90".
