SQ – Tell us a little bit about yourself, where were you born? When did you become interested in art or computers? Born in Hollywood California, became a sci fi/monster movie freak at a very early age. My father worked for a while at Papermate when I was little so I had an enormous supply of pens, pencils and paper. I was an artist kid from the beginning and combining that with my love of the movie stuff was a natural progression.

SQ – Tell us a little bit about your background in 3D? I think my 3d career began in the early 90's when I moved back to the Bay Area to work for Phil Tippett after living in LA for a while working at makeup effects shops. I was a sculptor then and came to Tippett to work on Jurassic Park as a mold maker and fabricator. I saw the change to computer graphics coming when I was in LA, but it wasn't until I was at Tippett when things really shifted. Tippett studio was going to do a form of computer enhanced go-motion on a number of dino shots, but after Spielberg saw promising tests from ILM, the decision was made to go cg with most of the shots. The studio quickly adapted and got the computers in there and the people and a lot of the animation was done there using both key frame and the D.I.D (dinosaur input device) Craig Hayes invented for allowing stop motion animators to animate in the computer using stop motion techniques and a metal armatured puppets with hundreds of sensors hooked up to the SGI's. It was pretty ground breaking stuff and really exciting to be around, though I mostly worked on the fabrication of traditional stop motion puppets that were used in creating the animatic sequences that I believe are on the dvd extras for Jurassic Park. Soon after that movie I started getting into animation and modeling while continuing to design and sculpt on subsequent films there.
