SQ – Your subject matter ranges from portrait to sci-fi. Do you make a lot of preliminary sketches before you actually start your image or do you start with just a basic shape and see where it takes you? When I was younger I used to sketch a lot more before I sat down to actually create an image, but as I've gotten older I tend to just work things out on the canvas as I do them. I'd like to think of that as confidence built from years of experience but it's probably me just not wanting to do more work than is absolutely necessary.

SQ - Do you feel you achieve the same result with software as you do with traditional pen, pencil or paint brushes? Or is one harder to use to get the exact image you have pictured in your mind for the piece you’re working on? That's a great question. I've always liked the look that comes from creating something using traditional mediums. And even with the advancement of programs that are made specifically to mimic the look and feel of traditional mediums, sometimes trying to pull off that exact look can prove to be a bit difficult using only software. It really depends on what I'm trying to accomplish and whether time plays a factor. If the end result is to create something that looks traditional, I still opt for doing it in a traditional medium. If there are time limitations involved, I usually opt to do things digitally. Then again, I still love what can be accomplished using a mixture of both.
